Nostalgia, Dec. 2015, David Van Ooijen : Isbin’s music fits the lute particularly well; he does not compose guitar or piano music for the lute but really managed to grasp what is lute about a lute and put that in his writing.
Gapplegate Classical Magazine, USA, dec 2015 : This is music that grows with every listen–sophisticated yet extraordinarily accessible and attractive in every way.

Ben Kettlewell, Editor, Alternate Music Press, Australia :
‘Stathis Skandalidis’ playing is superb in this collection of 23 compositions by Belgian guitarist, lute player and prolific composer, Gilbert Isbin. Stathis Skandalidis Plays Gilbert Isbin is a virtuosic album, sounding totally unforced and natural. He produces a wonderful, resonant quality from his lute, which fit Isbin’s compositions like a glove.’

David Braid, composer : I thought it was very strong – I like the fact you largely stuck to the short forms characteristic of much lute music – each piece has its own world and harmonic colour – you have achieved a wide range of expression with the modest means of one lute – always the real challenge in all composition so well done mate on a very successful disc! Also – the player is truly brilliant and what a wonderful tone he has – but most importantly – his phrasing and musical sense – a true artist!

Stathis Skandalidis Plays Gilbert Isbin – features the brilliant lutenist Stathis Skandilidis playing 23 of Gilbert Isbin’s lute tunes. Now if you think the lute is all about Elizabethan galliards and the like, think again. Gilbert’s compositions bring the instrument into the 21st century. Oustanding.
Diskoryxeion (Greece): Phontas Troussas :
The compositions and arrangements of Isbin have an aesthetic completeness, They are taking advantage of both the melodic, and the polyphonic possibilities of the instrument. Skandalidis as an instrumentalist utilizes most precisely those capabilities, offering beautiful performances that can excite listeners of different origins (both Renaissance music and folk, with the most modern sense)
